It is hard to believe that once again foaling & breeding season are upon us!  It seems like the 2012s are still little but when the first of the 2013s arrives any day now, we will be reminded just how much they have grown.  Stay tuned to the Atwood Ranch Facebook page for newborns as they arrive.

We’d like to announce the addition & welcome Mattie Cowherd-Evans to the Atwood Ranch Team!  Mattie joins us as our new Head of Horse Development, replacing Berin Macfarlane who is headed back home to Australia.  Mattie is a Parelli Professional with both Instructor & Horse Development Specialist credentials.  Prior to studying directly with Pat & Linda in the Mastery Program, she was involved in the family horse business & spent time with many other professionals, including international show jumper Bill Robertson.  Mattie’s passion for young horses, her positive attitude & well rounded background are but a few of the wonderful attributes she brings to our team.  You will see a whole lot more of Mattie in the coming months & years.

AR Doc Bar Down, "Kirby"

The yearling preschoolers are flying high!  Berin has them advancing their skills all the time – alternating quarters of study with pasture turnout.  We have taken a group to several Horse & Soul Tours including City of Industry, CA & Puyallup, WA in May.  Berin orchestrated inspiring spotlights at each including both on-line & liberty demos.

AR Chocolate Chex, "Mocha"

We can’t wait for the Performance Summit in September where the yearlings will once again move the crowd from laughter to tears with their youthful exuberance & uncanny savvy!  With the help of some other professionals, Berin will highlight a half dozen yearlings who are currently available & looking for perfect partners.

AR Spoonfulla Chex, "Taz"

See you in Pagosa Springs September 7-9, 2012!

Berin & Tara

We are thrilled to announce the addition of Berin Macfarlane as our new Head of Horse Development.  Berin is joined by his wife, Tara Trimble DVM, who takes on the role as our new ranch veterinarian.  Jake & Helen returned to their homeland in Australia to raise their family at the start of the New Year.  We were sad to bid them farewell but support their move, while welcoming Berin & Tara to our team.

Most recently Berin had been teaching the extern program at the Parelli Centers in CO & FL, while Tara had been working for a prominent veterinary practice in Ocala, FL.  They are now residing here at the ranch.  Berin, 4-Star Parelli Professional & Senior Horse Specialist, will be putting on clinics from time to time so stay tuned to the events page on our website.  Tara will look to expand her practice called Synergy Equine, specializing in sports medicine & acupuncture.

We are glad to employ their expertise & teamwork.  Welcome!

For those of you interested in riding age horses, we have recently added 6 new horses to our website, age three to nine.  Photos & video are on the way.  These are either mares we set aside for broodmare prospects or geldings we held out for our own ranch gelding herd.  Sires include Atwood Ranch stallions Colonel Doc Bar Chex, Ill Be Smart, Mr Skyline Peppy, and Powder River Playboy, as well as an outside stallion named Laredo Blue.  In addition, we’ve added a One Smart Peppy yearling filly to the for sale list.  Visit our website, Parelli Connect and the Atwood Ranch Facebook page for more information.

The recent event in Fort Worth, Texas was a huge success!  Pat promised it would be beautiful, exciting & educational — and he delivered.

Our own Jake Shoemark started AR Snowy River Chex (Buddy), John Baar rode AR Ill Be Moonstruck (Jane), while James Roberts was aboard AR Colonelslildate (Harriet).  Kalley Krickeberg was on AR Sanabelle Chex (Dawn) while Berin MacFarlane started AR Litas Shirley (Leila).  All these athletic, young horse specialists did an outstanding job!  We couldn’t have asked for a better start under saddle.  The horses were well prepared through our preschool program & ready for the next step in their young lives.

More in next month’s Newsletter about the fabulous partnerships that evolved as a result of this event.  All the AR two-year-olds we brought went home with students & professionals from far & wide — California, Iowa, Mississippi, Ohio & Texas!  Congratulation to the new owners & to these AR horses.
